Making a Love Connection – A Report from The National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy
Teens today live and breathe in a culture that touts casual sex and casual connections. Love U2® is a series of units that help young people acquire practical skills for emotionally healthy and ethically sound relationships. It focuses on helping teens craft a roadmap toward what they hope to achieve, not just what they must avoid. Dating Smarts: A Bit More Than Friends uses highly engaging activities in six lessons to explore essential aspects of early relationships - attraction, infatuation, feelings, rejection. Young teens learn the “how-to” skills of what to say and do, as well as ways to really get to know someone, and to build a relationship. "Relationship Smarts PLUS," based on the 5-year federal evaluation study at Auburn University, offers 13 activity-based lessons to guide teens in building healthy relationships and making wise choices. Covers topics such as maturity, values clarification and peer pressure, attractions and infatuation, building blocks for positive relationships, identify and future orientation, how to gauge relationship health, the low-risk relationship strategy, principles of smart relationships, the nature of true intimacy and a realistic concept of love, and breaking up. Also features cutting edge date violence prevention material, communication/conflict skills, and a unique approach to pregnancy prevention that educates about the needs of children. Engaging teen workbook and Parent/Guardian—Teen Connection activities. Baby Smarts: Through the Eyes of a Child includes 10 lessons that teaches about parental responsibility, child development and the important of stable and healthy parental unions. "Communication Smarts: PREP® for Teens" gives teens 7 lessons in communication and conflict management skills for use with peers and family. The material is adapted for teens from the highly acclaimed, research-based PREP ® programs. "Becoming Sex Smart" includes 11 lessons about the emotional and social aspects of sexuality that are too often ignored in sexuality discussions. A powerful motivational approach to help teens craft a "North Star," set boundaries, and more confidently navigate romantic relationships. Love U2® programs are designed for schools, youth agencies, clubs and faith-based organizations.
